Western Hognose – General Information
The Western Hognose can make for a great pet snake. Each snake is truly unique in personality, and temperament – which makes for an interesting connection between owner and animal. Purchasing from us directly (versus pet stores) allows for a direct, and continuous connection between You and Us. We provide snake-specific information, and guaranteed good health to ensure to snakes produced by us live prosperous lives under your care.
The Western Hognose snake has adapted a unique appearance, especially an up-turned snout allowing for burrowing (although also apparent in eastern and southern hognose snakes). Making sure your enclosure has enough substrate to allow for burrows is important for enrichment – more on that in the “Enclosure” section.
The Western Hognose is known for their theatricality. From the flattening of their necks to form a “cobra-like” appearance, bluff strikes, and even playing dead. The Western Hognose can put on quite a show, but with the goal of preservation of self – and not aggression towards you.
